July news round up from EAC

Meetings and networks

In June 2026, the EAC Board held its summer meeting at the offices of the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands in Amersfoort. The Board discussed the development of the new EAC strategic plan for 2027-2032. The next Board meeting takes place in early November, in Brussels, kindly hosted by the Flanders Heritage Agency.

In July, EAC President Marjolein Verschuur travelled to Bonn to meet Kateryna Chuyeva, board member of the Ukrainian Association of Archaeologists, who was on a visit to various German monument offices. The President took the opportunity to highlight the possibilities for European networking in the field of heritage management.

Surveys and consultations

The EAC Communications survey of its members has now closed, and we are processing the results, which will be send to members in due course. Many thanks to all who responded!

The EAC Archaeological Archives Working Group survey of archaeological repositories in heritage management is still open. The group is analysing the evolving role of repositoroes and the cost of sustainable archiving. This questionnaire is aimed directly at the managers of archaeological repositories. The EAC has also launched a survey on the management of archaeological heritage across Europe in the context of development-led archaeology. The EAC is undertaking this survey to gain a better understanding of how archaeological heritage is managed across Europe in the context of development-led archaeology. The questionnaire explores key aspects of national systems, including funding models, site classification and protection, the role of private archaeological organisations, workforce capacity, approaches to major infrastructure projects, and the societal value of archaeology. The information collected will support comparative analysis, facilitate the exchange of good practice among EAC members, and contribute to informed discussions on the future development of archaeological heritage management in Europe. Events

The EAC/ EAA working party on Farming, Forestry and Rural Land Management will hold a discussion session at EAA2026 in Athens (#94) ‘Land-use Change (LUC) and archaeological heritage: Key concepts and considerations; working towards guidelines for best practice'.
