Annual Meeting 2027

The 28th EAC General Assembly and Heritage Symposium will be held on 18-19 March 2027 in Vilnius, Lithuania. The symposium will be followed by an excursion on 20 March 2027.

The event is organised by the Department of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture, in partnership with the Klaipėda University Institute of Baltic Region History and Archaeology, Vilnius University Faculty of History and the Society of the Lithuanian Archaeology. The event will be hosted by the National Museum – Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania.

Each year, the Symposium is open to EAC members and interested colleagues. It is free of charge to attend but participants must register.

Heritage Symposium

The theme of the heritage symposium is 'Archaeology in Changing Landscapes’. The scientific coordinators are led by Professor dr. Albinas Kuncevičius, Department of Archaeology, Faculty of History, Vilnius University.

The concept note and call for papers can be downloaded using the link below. The EAC welcomes proposals which demonstrate a clear connection to one of the three themes outlined in the concept note, and which reflect the practice and theory of archaeological heritage management. The call for papers is now open, and guidance on how to submit an abstract can be found using the link. The language of the symposium is English.

Host – Department of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture

The mission of the Department is to ensure the preservation of Lithuania’s cultural heritage. The Department implements national policy for the protection of immovable cultural heritage and movable cultural assets (listed in the Register of Cultural Property). The institution is responsible for coordinating and maintaining the inventory and registration of cultural heritage. It provides methodological guidance on cultural heritage protection and advises on heritage conservation and management issues. It also develops programmes for the management of immovable cultural heritage and related compensation schemes and coordinates their implementation. In addition, it organises the preparation of special spatial planning documents for the protection of immovable cultural heritage and addresses issues related to the research, organisation and implementation of research into both immovable cultural heritage and movable cultural property. The institution also coordinates international cooperation in the field of cultural heritage protection and promotes the understanding, accessibility and dissemination of knowledge about immovable cultural heritage and movable cultural property.

The National Museum was founded in 2009 and is housed in a historic residence - the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania in Vilnius Lower Castle. After more than 20 years of extensive archaeological and historical research, some palace areas have been restored, while others have been reconstructed. The Museum collects, preserves, researches, and presents the historical and cultural heritage of the Lithuanian state, the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, and its rulers through various means, including permanent exhibitions of rich and unique archaeological findings, collections of European applied and fine arts from the Gothic to the Baroque periods, and other valuable materials related to Lithuanian studies.

The Museum is a vibrant hub of educational and cultural activities. It disseminates information on cultural tourism, facilitates state-representative events, and actively engages with civil society. Its mission is to strengthen historical consciousness, foster national values, and maintain the Lithuanian community throughout the world. It also seeks to raise awareness of cultural and artistic heritage and to present the traditional historical and cultural links between European countries and peoples.

General Assembly & Consilium

The EAC General Assembly and Consilium will take place on Thursday 18 March (9:30am) 2027. Representatives from all EAC member organisations and invited observers are welcome to join us for the General Assembly. Papers for the General Assembly are sent to members via email.
