Making Choices guidance
Aims
The aims of the EAC Making Choices Working Group was to enhance the implementation of the European Convention on the Protection of the Archaeological Heritage (European Treaty Series 143, known as the Valetta Convention), and to establish and publish common principles and guidelines to assist in the management of archaeological heritage, with particular regard to its relationship with land development activities across the European Union.
Between 2018 and 2020, the Making Choices Working Group developed three strands of work in this direction, mirrored by the activities of three respective subgroups:
-
National Research Frameworks
-
Articulating significance of archaeological sites
-
Making the case for development-led archaeology
Each of these groups created a series of guidance to help the managers of archaeological heritage across Europe to prove the significance and the public benefit of archaeology and to facilitate the creation and use of research frameworks.
